Homeister moves into second on wins list for female jockeys PDF Print E-mail

jockeyrose winningJockey Rosemary Homeister Jr. passed P.J. Cooksey on Monday for second-place for wins by a female jockey.

Homeister guided Gambles List to victory in the third race on Monday at Colonial Downs to secure her 2,138th win. The 37-year-old Homeister leads the current Colonial meet with 45 wins and $636,369 in earnings as of Monday. According to Jockey Club statistics, Homeister has 2,139 wins in the United States and Canada as of July 19.

“This is a big moment for me and another key career accomplishment that gets added to my resume,” Homeister said.

Retired Racing Hall of Fame jockey Julie Krone leads all female riders with 3,704 wins and is the only female jockey to have won a classic race. Krone won the 1993 Belmont Stakes (G1) aboard Colonial Affair. Homeister rode in the 2003 Kentucky Derby (G1) aboard Supah Blitz, finishing 13th.
