This business is like a roller coaster. When your up, at the top(winning) everything is great and everybody wants you(you can do no wrong). But when your on a down slope(not winning) they can't find enough bad things to say about you.
It can get frustrating at times. I just try to find my inner peace and keeping moving forward knowing that it will all come back around again to where I am on top again.
In this business, it doesn't matter what great things you accomplished or all the hard work you put in in the past, its what can you do for me right now.
I'll hear, wow you've won so many races (2,700+), your rode in the Breeders Cup and Kentucky Derby, how exciting! But to me that was in the past and I am fighting to stay on top (winning everyday) on a daily basis.
Its a very competitive business where you have to be on top of your game all the time. I can ride 5 races, win one and not hit the board on anything else that day and feel like a failure. Its such a mental game within yourself. Every jockey goes thru this same battle every race they ride. Its learning how to deal with the ups and downs and being able to push it aside because the next race is another chance to prove yourself.
Being a Jockey takes a lot of physical and mental strength. So when your at the track and you see us walking back after a race, just know, win or lose we are trying very hard to win every race we ride.
