So many things go on daily at the race track. Things are always changing. Its like being on a roller coaster ride - sometimes your up and sometimes your down. Learning how to take it all in stride is a constant.
My agent Jay Fedor had asked me last year to come to Oaklawn Park for the winter. I told him I would let him know after the meet at Arlington Park. We ended up being 3rd leading rider and have a great business relationship. So I decided to take a chance and go there instead of Tampa Bay Downs. I knew that it wouldn't be an easy meet from what I heard. But everyone I spoke to said how beautiful it was in Hot Springs. First the weather has been rough most of the time I have been here. Lots of cold days, snow, freezing rain and hail.(and thats just in one day. LOL) Second, I have met some amazing people here. Top notch Trainers and Jockeys. The trainer/jockey loyalty here is iron clad so it has taken some time to break in. I've had 7 winners so far thru March 8, 2013. Im hoping to finish up with at least 15 for the meet. But we'll see how that plays out. Always good to have a goal to reach. Im used to riding many races a day and winning multiple races thru out the week. So its been a little slow for me here. But I've taken the time to enjoy my daughter on my not so busy days. The track itself has a good surface and the horses seem to handle it well. The racing fans are the best here. Its fun to see and hear the excitement around town that Oaklawn Park is open and its the place to be thru out the season.
